The Kvetcher's Speech

My quick two cents on 2010's Academy Award Best Picture nominees:

BLACK SWAN: Disturbingly cool. Natalie Portman wins Best Actress, hands down.
THE FIGHTER: Christian Bale wins Supporting, even more hands down. Other than that, a nice little feel good boxing movie, although the fight scenes suffered from extra cheese.
INCEPTION: A friggin' shame that this movie will be forgotten, awards-wise. Not even a director nom for Nolan? Tragic. One of the most ambitious films ever.
THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT: If there weren't lesbians involved, this would be a pretty pedestrian movie.
THE KING'S SPEECH: Very good story. Colin Firth will probably win, and I can't really argue.
127 HOURS: A Francomobile. Let me guess: he ends up cutting off his arm?
THE SOCIAL NETWORK: My pick of the group. Phenomenal dialogue. Great acting. Timely. Yadda yadda. Just a solid movie.
TOY STORY 3: Pixar, you've done it again. Question: is it possible for the animated film that's nominated for Best Picture to not win Best Animated Film, when none of the other ones are?
TRUE GRIT: Dear Coen Bros: I appreciate you making a pretty good movie that didn't have a completely shitty ending. Your reward: no Oscars.
WINTER'S BONE: Didn't see it. I have a feeling I'm not alone.

  1. Amendment: I watched WINTER'S BONE. Oh my god, what a dreary fucking snoozefest. Steer clear.
